Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, warns: when you are bored and look for a friend just to fill the time, know that you are digging a black hole for yourself. It is precisely in those meetings “just to pass the time” that all the troubles of a person’s life begin.
Rabbi Pinto explains: one looks for company for a trip — and that is where the trouble starts. One is bored and simply calls someone: “How are you?” From that very conversation an argument will arise, something that will turn against you. Seeking someone only to pass the time is the opening of a person’s greatest problem.
