And he said unto her: ‘Give me thy son.’ And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20

And he cried unto the LORD, and said: ‘O LORD my G-d, hast Thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?’

21

And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said: ‘O LORD my G-d, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come back into him.’

22

And the LORD hearkened unto the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back into him, and he revived.

Fire from Heaven Consumes the Offering and the Water • 1 Kings 18:31–39
31

And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying: ‘Israel shall be thy name.’

32

And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD; and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

33

And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood.

34

And he said: ‘Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the wood.’ And he said: ‘Do it the second time’; and they did it the second time. And he said: ‘Do it the third time’; and they did it the third time.

35

And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

36

And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening offering, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said: ‘O LORD, the G-d of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that Thou art G-d in Israel, and that I am Thy servant, and that I have done all these things at Thy word.

37

Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that Thou, LORD, art G-d, for Thou didst turn their heart backward.’

38

Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39

And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said: ‘The LORD, He is G-d; the LORD, He is G-d.’

The Bringing Down of the Rain in Prayer • 1 Kings 18:41–45
41

And Elijah said unto Ahab: ‘Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.’

42

So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees.

43

And he said to his servant: ‘Go up now, look toward the sea.’ And he went up, and looked, and said: ‘There is nothing.’ And he said: ‘Go again seven times.’

44

And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said: ‘Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a man’s hand.’ And he said: ‘Go up, say unto Ahab: Make ready thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.’

45

And it came to pass in a little while, that the heaven grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

And he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the hot stones, and a cruse of water. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

7

And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said: ‘Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.’

8

11

And He said: ‘Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD.’ And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake;

12

and after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

The Victory over Aram • 1 Kings 20:13–21
13

And, behold, a prophet came near unto Ahab king of Israel, and said: ‘Thus saith the LORD: Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.’ .

14

And Ahab said: ‘By whom?’ And he said: ‘Thus saith the LORD: By the young men of the princes of the provinces.’ Then he said: ‘Who shall begin the battle?’ And he answered: ‘Thou.’

15

Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

16

And they went out at noon. But Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the booths, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.

17

And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying: ‘There are men come out from Samaria.’

18

And he said: ‘Whether they are come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they are come out for war, take them alive.’

19

So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.

20

And they slew every one his man; and the Arameans fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-hadad the king of Aram escaped on a horse with horsemen.

21

And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Arameans with a great slaughter.

The Prophecy concerning Ahab and Its Fulfilment • 1 Kings 21:17–19; 22:37–38
17

And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying:

18

’Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwelleth in Samaria; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to take possession of it. .

19

And thou shalt speak unto him, saying: Thus saith the LORD: Hast thou killed, and also taken possessions? and thou shalt speak unto him, saying: Thus saith the LORD: In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.’

37

So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

38

And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; the harlots also washed themselves there; according unto the word of the LORD which He spoke.

But an angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite: ‘Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them: Is it because there is no G-d in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?

4

Now therefore thus saith the LORD: Thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.’ And Elijah departed.

17

וַיָּ֜מׇת כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֣ה ׀ אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֣ר אֵלִיָּ֗הוּ וַיִּמְלֹ֤ךְ יְהוֹרָם֙ תַּחְתָּ֔יו {פ} בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שְׁתַּ֔יִם לִיהוֹרָ֥ם בֶּן־יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה כִּ֛י לֹא־הָ֥יָה ל֖וֹ בֵּֽן׃ {ס}
So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram began to reign in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.

And when the servant of the man of G-d was risen early, and gone forth, behold, a host with horses and chariots was round about the city. And his servant said unto him: ‘Alas, my master! how shall we do?’

16

And he answered: ‘Fear not: for they that are with us are more than they that are with them.’

17

And Elisha prayed, and said: ‘LORD, I pray Thee, open his eyes, that he may see.’ And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said: ‘Smite this people, I pray Thee, with blindness.’ And He smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him; but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders: ‘See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away my head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold the door fast against him; is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?’

And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him; and [the king] said: ‘Behold, this evil is of the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?’

2

Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of G-d, and said: ‘Behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might this thing be?’ And he said: ‘Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.’

16

Be strong, be strong, and let us be strengthened.

In the merit of the miracles of Elijah and Elisha — the prophets who called down fire and rain, who healed and revived, and in whose footsteps salvation was wrought for Israel — may their memory shield you and your household, may every closed gate be opened before you, and may you be visited with salvation and mercy in every time of need. Amen.
