Rabbi Chaim Vital — the Holy Ari would tell him: “You, your soul is great, your soul is great.” Rabbi Chaim Vital asked him, “Why do you praise me so much? There are other righteous men, why do you praise me so much?” The Holy Ari answered him: “You struggle with great desires, and because you struggle with great desires…”
And as Rabbi Chaim Vital would say, the root of his soul came from the root of Cain — and since he broke through it all, he achieved great things, explains Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a. This is the lesson: a difficult soul is not a defect but a sign of greatness. The greater the struggle, the greater the heights you can reach. Do not be broken by the intensity of your desires — break through them, and you will achieve great things.
