🎬 A man walks through the desert — exhausted, thirsty, finished. Then he sees a tree with shade, fruit and water flowing beneath it. What blessing can you possibly give such a tree? Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, gives that exact blessing to a family of quiet givers.
The Gemara tells of a traveller in the desert, tired, hungry, thirsty, at the end of his strength, who suddenly sees a tree in the distance: it gives shade, it bears fruit, and a spring of water flows beneath it. He rests in the shade, eats, drinks — and then turns to the tree and says: “Tree, how shall I bless you? Your fruit is sweet, your shade is pleasant, water flows beneath you. May it be the will that every sapling planted from you will be just like you.” This is the blessing Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, gives to the righteous Enav and Eli: that everything that grows out of them will be like them — because their devotion to Torah, to the Holy One, Blessed be He, and to the yeshiva is not new. It goes back years, and it has no equal.
This year, together with the friends around them, they distributed ten million shekels to the poor — with kindness and with dignity, so that no one was shamed. And here is the secret of why the evil eye has no hold on them: a person invites the evil eye the moment they say “I am wise, I am successful, I am rich.” Whoever attributes success to the Holy One, Blessed be He, no evil eye can ever harm. The righteous do not credit themselves. All they have is from Heaven — it is all grace. That is why Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, blesses them with abundance, success and salvation, a thousand times over.
