🎬 “The kindness of the nations is a sin.” A sentence that shocks — until you see what kindness without measure produces. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, traces it back to Abraham and Isaac and shows why precision is the whole secret.
A great principle, says Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a: in charity, in kindness and in good deeds a person must know how to act. Give beyond the proper measure and it turns into harm; be harsh beyond the measure and it turns into cruelty. Look at Abraham: Ishmael inherited his hospitality — and with it the power of desire. Ten measures of promiscuity came down to the world, and nine were taken by the sons of Ishmael. Where did it come from? From an excess of giving, from giving what should never have been given.
From Isaac came Esau. Isaac is the attribute of justice, but taken beyond its measure — and to Esau he says “by your sword you shall live.” So the two extremes stand before us: too much kindness becomes Ishmael, too much justice becomes Esau. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, draws the conclusion: the kindness of the nations is a sin because it is not precise kindness. Precise kindness is found in Israel — precise kindness and precise justice together, everything exact. And once it is exact it is true kindness, and that is the strength of the people of Israel.
