🎬 The reason given for the flood was that man’s heart inclines to evil all day long. Then Noah brings an offering — and the Holy One says: I will never curse man again, for the inclination of his heart is evil. The same fact, the opposite verdict. What changed? The Malbim asks the question that breaks the plain reading: before the flood, the evil inclination of man’s heart was the prosecution’s argument. After the offering, that same inclination becomes the reason to spare him. Nothing in the man changed — the offering changed the standing of the world.
