Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, teaches: the source of this remedy is in the Rishonim. The Abudraham — Rabbi David Abudraham, on whom the Shulchan Aruch and all the greats rely — writes that it was the custom in Provence to say at the conclusion of Shabbat “Ein Keloheinu” and “Pitom Haketoret,” because it is taught in Tractate Yoma that no one who dealt with the incense failed to become wealthy, as it says, “They shall put incense before You.” So it is for one who says it: to become wealthy and to succeed in all his ways.
Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, cites the Chida in Tziporen Shamir and the holy Zohar on the great virtue of “Pitom Haketoret,” and the Ari in Orchot Chaim, who adds that the incense enriches anyone who engages with it. Yet the Chida warns: do not say, “I am doing this so that Hashem grants me a living” — rather, “I am doing this for the sake of Heaven.” Said at Motzaei Shabbat for the sake of Heaven, “Ein Keloheinu” and “Pitom Haketoret” carry a very great power — a remedy for livelihood all week.
