If someone hurt you, if someone said something specific to you — do not forget what he said. Put it out there and think about why he said this and that to you. If someone shouted “thief” at you, those words are not for nothing: maybe you are not a thief, but maybe there is something you are not doing fairly. If someone shouted “liar” — maybe something is not honest. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, states the principle plainly: nothing comes from the Holy One, blessed be He, for no reason, nothing.
And the moment you put it on the table, check it, pray, feel regret and start to sort it out — that is when you start to remove the problem. Then the parable: a person has dirt on the lens of his glasses and it bothers him. If he does not clean it, in another week he will not notice it at all — but the glasses are still dirty, and more dirt comes, and more. Better to clean while you still feel it. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, warns: you can live with dirty glasses, get used to them, see almost normally, and not feel that anything is missing — but it is dirty, and it is not good. Get to the bottom of every problem. Ask why Hashem did this.
