There is no barrier in the world that a person who acts with sincerity cannot break.
Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, tells of Nakdimon ben Guryon: when there was no rain and the Jews could not go up to Jerusalem to drink — a sign that the world was in anger — he did not act by logic. He acted with sincerity, giving beyond his obligation and beyond his strength, and the rain came and the sun stood still.
Sincerity, temimut, is the one thing this generation needs. Rav Preida repeated the same teaching four hundred times for one slow student and merited that his whole generation have a place in the world to come. Rabbi Pinto urges us to keep that simple, wholehearted faith — and to raise our children with it — for as sincerity decreases, our problems only increase.
