Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, opens with a principle: everything written in the Torah is eternal, for all of life. The Torah was given thousands of years ago, yet every week its portion is what is actually happening to a person that very week. We are not reading ancient history — we are reading our own days. And when the Holy One, blessed be He, says to our father Abraham “go,” He is not speaking to Abraham alone. He is speaking to every Jew in every place in the world: go, start moving forward, stop standing in place.
Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, then names the real problem: every person builds himself a comfort zone. Comfortable at home, comfortable at work, comfortable with the same friends — and a person closes himself inside the one thing that feels safe. But the portion shouts: the business is not succeeding? Get up and go. The home is not good? Get up and go. What you are doing is not working out? Get up and go. The tragedy, the rabbi warns, is the people who did not know how to get up and go in time — they sank, and kept sinking. When you see that G-d is closing every door for you where you stand, that is the call: get up and go.
