Do What You Can, Then Leave the Rest to Heaven

🎬 A very wealthy man married his children only into the most important families β€” anyone who was not important, he refused. Then one day his son’s leg became diseased, and it had to be amputated. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, tells what happened next, and why.
The city wanted those children, but the father looked only at wealth and status. After the amputation there was great sorrow β€” and then the son married a good, simple woman. The father went to the great rabbi and asked: all my life I give charity, study Torah and do kindness β€” why did my son have to lose his leg? Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, gives the answer he was given: it was written that this woman was his soulmate, and the father was searching only among the rich and the important. So it had to happen that the leg was taken, so the son would come down and be willing to marry a simple woman β€” because his happiness was with her.
From here the lesson. A person does not know the accounts of the Holy One, blessed be He, and does not understand them. Whatever comes before you, know how to take it correctly, do it well, and leave it to Heaven. Man sees with the eyes; Heaven sees into the heart. We see up to a certain point β€” and from there we leave it in faith and simplicity. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, is sharp about the alternative: the many thoughts a person turns over, trying to understand and to dig deeper, eating his own heart out β€” that is the greatest destruction. Do what you can, as much as you can, and from there do not add to it. Leave it in simplicity in the hands of Heaven.
