🎬 A remedy for great livelihood, all week long — and its source stands in the Rishonim. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, brings the Abudraham, the Orchot Chaim and the Chida, and shows what a person says at the conclusion of Shabbat to open the gates of parnasa for the six days ahead.
The Chida brings it in the name of the Abudraham — Rabbi David Abudraham, one of the Rishonim on whom the Shulchan Aruch and the whole world lean with complete confidence. In the order of the conclusion of Shabbat he writes: it was the custom in Provence to say “Ein Keloheinu” and “Pitom Haketoret” at Motzaei Shabbat, because it is taught in Yoma that a person never repeated “Pitom Haketoret” except that it enriched him — as it is said, “they shall put incense before You” and there, “may the L-rd bless your substance” and “let our lips compensate for bulls.” Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, notes that the same is written in the Orchot Chaim of Rabbi Aaron of Lunel, who adds the reasoning: since “Pitom Haketoret” enriches all who engage in it, its mere mention may enrich as well.
Then the Chida goes further in Tziporen Shamir, copying from the holy Zohar several virtues of saying “Pitom Haketoret” and of the intention behind it — all kinds of success flow from it. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, draws out the condition the Chida attaches at the end: a person must intend it for the honor of the Blessed Name and not for his own benefit. Do not say, “I am doing this so that Heaven will give me a livelihood”; say, “I am doing this for the honor of the Blessed Name, for the sake of Heaven.” If the Holy One, Blessed be He, wishes to give livelihood, He will give it — but in “Ein Keloheinu” and “Pitom Haketoret” at the conclusion of Shabbat there is a very great power.
