Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, teaches: one who is careful about theft and sexual immorality can always do teshuvah; he can pass through time and be saved in many matters. But the moment a person commits theft or immorality, it ignites all his sins and triggers everything — and even if there was divine forbearance, it is released. You can hold onto a sin for entire years and the Holy One, blessed be He, does nothing; but the moment you commit these two, that restraint is released.
Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, adds: we sometimes see people living in their own world for years, and in one moment all the troubles of twenty or thirty years open upon them, and they fall into the hardest things. Why? Because they committed the sins the Holy One, blessed be He, does not hold back — there is no more divine forbearance. And we are in a generation where everything goes fast: a person can in one moment reach the greatest places, and from the highest places fall in one moment to the lowest.
