🎬 “Everything is for the best” is not passive optimism. Rabbi Yoel Moshe Pinto, shlita (Shuva Israel), reveals what our Sages truly meant — and why it puts the power to change your reality in your own hands.
When a person adopts a true, positive outlook on their life, that is what ensures their life will be the best and most improved. But when we say a person should think that everything is for the best — as our Sages told us, “whatever the Merciful One does, He does for the best” — it is not what people think. It does not mean simply being optimistic and seeing life in the best possible way. That is not it. Rabbi Yoel Moshe Pinto, shlita, explains that it does not help a person to sit in their chair and say everything is good and that from here on everything works out.
Everything is good, teaches Rabbi Yoel Moshe Pinto, shlita, because of the knowledge that we can change every single thing. The people of Israel are not a people who live in delusions and think that everything is good. When someone passes away, people cry about it, mourn and say it is very bad. When a person has someone sick in their home, when a person has trouble, they are not supposed to lie on the couch and think everything is fine — they are supposed to get up, act and change the reality. This knowledge that it is in our hands to change reality at every moment, that nothing is final, sealed and closed such that it cannot be changed — that is what it means that everything is for the best.
