King David says in Psalms, “Every man is a liar.” A university study years ago found that everyone who speaks — except the righteous who guard their tongues — lies every three minutes. In the way of the world, an honest, normal person from the market, from anywhere, every three minutes a lie leaves their mouth. This is what the angels told the Holy One, Blessed be He: everyone is a liar. Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, rosh yeshiva of Shuva Israel, opens our eyes to something we all carry and rarely face.
Why, asks Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, shlit’a, do people in the world have anxiety and fears? Because the more the world is filled with technology and mental confusion, the more people lie. And when a person lies and does not tell the truth, his soul inside knows the truth and his mind knows the truth — so when he says something untrue he is in conflict with himself. His subconscious knows it is not true, but he hears himself saying something else, and he starts getting tangled up inside between the truth and the lie. Then he is sucked into the lie: he can play along for a month, a year, ten years — until his soul collapses.
